1. What is a Presbyterian?
The Presbyterian Church is a Christian denomination whose beliefs and practices are rooted in the tradition of the Reformed Faith.
2. What is Reformed Faith?
A thoughtful church member asked her pastor, "What is the Reformed Faith to which you so frequently refer? I hear much of the distinctives of the Reformed Faith without a clear indication as to what those distinctives are." This is a parapharse of the answer the pastor gave:
- The Reformed Christian believes that he is justified by faith in Jesus Christ through the immediate work of the Holy Spirit in his heart.
- The Reformed Christian believes in the Trinity, therefore, in the full deity of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The Reformed Christian believes in the sacraments and the Word of God as means of grace.
- The Reformed Christian believes in a prior work of God's grace in the human heart leading to salvation.
- The Reformed Christian believes that the priesthood of all believers has replaced a special priesthood, and that ordination is by the Holy Spirit and not by any power granted in human succession.
- The Reformed Christian believes that baptism represents the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the believer, and that the promise is to believers and to their children who are also heirs of the covenant.
- The Reformed Christian believes in a representative government rather than a purely democratic government.
In addition to these denominational distinctives, the Reformed Christian bases his relation to God and his hope of salvation on the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, incarnate Son of God, crucified for our sins, raised for our justification, reigning in the hearts of His people by the Holy Spirit and coming again in time to judge the quick and the dead. 3. When is your church open?
Our regular office hours are 8:30 a.m. - Noon, 1-5 p.m. Sunday Services begin at 10:30 a.m.
4. How may I become a member of your church?
The incarnation of God in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, gives to the church not only its mission but also its understanding of membership. One becomes an active member of the church through faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and acceptance of his Lordship in all of life. Baptism and a public profession of faith in Jesus as Lord are the visible signs of entrance into the active membership of the church. Persons may enter into active church membership in the following ways: by profession of faith, reaffirmation of faith in Jesus Christ, or transfer of certificate from another church. 5. May I participate in Holy Communion at your church without being a member?
All who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are welcome at the Table.
6. I want to have my child baptized, but I am not a memer of your church. Will you do this for me?
As Presbyterians, we each take a vow to help all who are baptized come to know the love of God. Because of this commitment, we only baptize from our membership.
7. May I have my wedding at your church?
Member wedding dates are held with priority over non-member dates (which may only be scheduled 6 months prior to the requested date). Non-member wedding parties must have a member of the congregation willing to sponsor the wedding in addition to our other wedding guidelines. All wedding parties are required to utilize a Westminster Wedding Coordinator in addition to building deposits and use fees related to areas of the church that will be utilized.
