Local Mission & Outreach

The Mission of Westminster Presbyterian Church is to be a Christ-centered community, hearing the Good News of the Scriptures, responding in faith to be the person and work of Christ, learning the Christian faith, caring for one another, and growing in commitment and personal spirituality, so that we may go into the world to live as Christ's servants proclaiming Christ's message.

One of the ways we proclaim Christ's message is by providing opportunities for our members to respond in faith by helping with the mission projects of the church through direct participation in work projects and mission trips, extra giving, prayer, and committee support.

Areas of Local Mission work include:

Meals on Wheels - provide nutritious meals and other nutrition services to men and women who are elderly, homebound, disabled, frail, or at risk. These services significantly improve the quality of life and health of the individuals they serve and postpone early institutionalization.

Opportunity School – is a nonprofit organization in Amarillo, Texas, created in 1969 by volunteers to address a community need – children who lacked basic learning skills and experiences entered school unprepared for academic achievement, and many never caught up to their peers.

Presbyterian Children’s Home - For more than 80 years, the Presbyterian Home for Children has provided a safe haven for children. Children come to the Home from a variety of circumstances. Some come from broken homes or because tragedy has interrupted their lives. Others are placed in the Home by children's service agencies or court order. Many have incarcerated parents who don't even know where they live. They may have known hunger, physical or sexual abuse or neglect

High School Bible Chair Program – Provides Old Testament and New Testament survey classes for Amarillo’s local public High Schools

Tyler Street Resource Center - Gives assistance with needs such as: Rent and Utility Assistance, Transportation, Health & Mental Health Services, Food, Clothing & Shelter, Child, Family & Elder Services, Consumer Assistance, Emergency Services, Legal Services, Support Groups, Education, and much more

Samaritan Counseling Center - The Samaritan Pastoral Counseling Center of Amarillo, Inc. is an extension of the Church’s pastoral care and an expression of God’s love.  Pastoral Counseling is a specialized ministry combining psychotherapy and the inspiration of Christian principles. It is a holistic approach using the understanding of the behavioral sciences and the wisdom of the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Young Life – Is an international para-church ministry seeking opportunities for every adolescent to have an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ and follow Him.

Bible Chair of the Southwest - The Bible Chair of the South West was established over 39 years ago to provide a religious education in conjunction with Amarillo College.

Angel Tree - Angel Tree Christmas gives churches an opportunity to share Christ's love by helping to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners.

Interfaith Hunger Project – The congregation brings food on the first Sunday of each month for the Tyler Street Resource center

Emergency Response Teams – Volunteers seek opportunities to help others on short notice for emergency (i.e. tornados, hurricanes)
